We have had a whole night and a full day of rain. Everything smells fresh. And everything looks much greener than it did before. We needed the downpour. Today was an inside kind of day, and we spent the morning drinking coffee and watching the storm. In the afternoon I made a quick trip to the supermarket in Rangiora to get supplies for unexpected dinner guests. The town was very busy and the supermarket even more so but I managed to find everything we needed.
The company was lovely and dinner was crisp-skinned butterflied chicken with carrots, broccoli and cauliflower and buttery Oamaru potatoes… probably the nicest dinner we’ve had in a long time. Sometimes the classics are the best.
